Meet Dr. Gabriella Korosi
Dear writers, and readers, today, I will introduce you to one of my favourite writers and editors
who has been part of our community for a long time. Dr Gabriealla is a thoughtful writer, book author, remarkable healthcare professional, and also a publication owner empowering writers and readers. Her contributions to my publications are beyond reproach. She recently reviewed my cortisol clarity book as an act of kindness. I am very grateful for her support and collaboration. I believe you will enjoy this short interview and connect with her.Hi Dr Gabriella, I learned a lot about you but please tell us a bit about yourself for our readers in your own words.
Hi Dr Mehmet, I am an evolving author, writer, publisher, and creative soul. My background is in nursing and public health, but my passions stretch far beyond that.
I was born in Hungary, where I first trained as a nurse, and moved to the United States over 25 years ago. Now, I call the beautiful Pacific Northwest home.
Throughout my career, I have worked in many areas — addictions, mental health, nephrology, cardiology, disaster nursing, and community health. But teaching has always been at the heart of what I do, whether in classrooms, clinical settings, or through my writing.
Beyond my work, I love creating — whether it is through storytelling, painting, singing, or even gardening. Growing food, spending time in nature, and sharing meals with loved ones bring me joy. My greatest goal is to build communities that uplift, support, and inspire one another.
I write because I believe in the power of words. I interview people because their stories matter. I create because creativity is life itself. And above all, I strive to think outside the box and protect both humanity and nature.
What does health mean to you, and what do you recommend to your readers?
Health is a very complex topic, and it means different things to different people, depending on where they are in their lives. To me, health is more than just the absence of disease — it is a state of balance, where the body, mind, and spirit align in harmony. Well-being comes from that inner homeostasis.
My biggest recommendation is not to wait until things start to decline. Once a disease takes hold, it is much harder to reverse. Be proactive — listen to your body, nurture your mind, and take care of your soul. And above all, be kind to yourself. Self-criticism does not help anyone; love and self-compassion are far more powerful tools for healing.
What are your hobbies, or what excites and entertains you?
I love being out in nature — walking among the trees, spending time in my garden, or just sitting by the river with no agenda. I find joy in painting, woodworking, storytelling, and poetry. Singing outdoors, traveling, and exploring new places fill my soul with inspiration. I also have a deep love for languages and enjoy the challenge of learning new ones. And, of course, time spent with family and friends is always precious to me.
What are the top three books that have influenced your life?
The Anatomy Atlas was a key resource throughout my nursing career, helping me understand the intricate design of the human body. That knowledge still serves me every day.
I also cherish the books of Rejtő Jenő (James P. Howard). His stories have been a constant companion since my teenage years — I have read, re-read, and listened to them countless times. The Dirty Captain remains a personal favorite. As a child, I would read his books under my blanket with a flashlight or soak in a bathtub for hours, adding warm water just to keep reading longer!
Lastly, Our Society: Addiction Uncovered — a book I wrote — represents a turning point in my journey as a writer, pushing me to share knowledge in new and meaningful ways.
Why do you write on Medium?
A friend introduced me to Medium years ago, and after publishing Our Society: Addiction Uncovered, many suggested that I start a blog. Once I began writing and connecting with others, I realized how much I loved this free-flowing, creative space. But what keeps me here is the community — the friendships and collaborations that have grown out of it. Some of my best writing projects have come from working with fellow writers on Medium.
Do you write on other platforms like Substack? If so, how do you find them?
Yes, I write on Substack as well. I have both a personal page and a community publication, Dancing Elephants Press. It is a different kind of space — it takes time to build an audience, and I am still exploring how much I enjoy it. I also write on Newsbreak occasionally, but I find its distribution system discouraging. If a piece does not get distributed, it feels like all the effort put into it goes unseen.
What are your values as a writer?
Authenticity. Everything I write — whether personal experience, poetry, research, or fiction — comes from me. I do not use AI or automated tools to generate my content. Writing is deeply personal, and I want my words to reflect my thoughts, emotions, and experiences.
How do you connect with your readers?
By sharing my experiences and knowledge. I try to answer questions, engage in discussions, and be as present as I can. Writing is a two-way conversation, and I value every interaction.
Why did you join ILLUMINATION Publications, and how do you find it so far?
I joined ILLUMINATION early on after seeing some of my friends, like Dr. Preeti Singh, writing there. Their presence encouraged me to give it a try. Over time, I became an editor, and it has been an amazing experience. The support, collaboration, and connections with other writers and editors have made it a truly enriching space. I love the projects we build together on both Medium and Substack.
What are your top five stories that you want to share with your audience, and why?
It is hard to pick favorites, but these stand out:
Strict Dancing Elephants Press Submission Guidelines October 2024 — This is the gateway to my publication, Dancing Elephants Press, and it represents my vision for positivity in writing.
Hi, I am Gabriella! Welcome to my Profile — A glimpse into my journey as a writer and creator.
