After years on Medium and thousands of dollars earned, I'm switching to Substack:

* Regardless of the past, Medium is having difficulties and my view is that it is on a downhill spiral. Still a good platform but limited future.

* Athough it is harder to earn on Substack, the future looks brighter, especially with a good strategy guide

I totally agree with your thoughts and observations and I feel the same now. Medium goes backwards due to their neglect to good writers and only focusing on sensational content.

Although I still write, edit, and curate on Medium, my preference is now Substack because my stories get no organic views and my account gets no followers. Medium curators simply put me in a virtual distrubution jail and I no longer care about their subjective taste. Medium is just another tool and I love the community that I created through through my gaming and videos/podcasts publications. I also plan to spend more time in blogging and YouTube which are my main interests. Therefore I rebranded Illumination's community channel to Substack Mastery to create valuable tutorial and also promote the work of our subscribers on Substack. I will start the project with a team of YouTubers soon. Thank you for creating this valuable poll Dr Yildiz. I also read the Chapter 17 of your Substack Mastery book and gained new insights from it.

I’ve ticked Medium and to begin with I did find it very helpful, much less so now as I’m getting increasingly irritated with its algorithm, and my articles have never achieved the success I’d hoped for. Nor have I ever earned more than peanuts.

I have also used LinkedIn but now I’m no longer looking for work it no longer feels relevant. Substack though is waiting in the wings! Waiting until I’ve finished packing up my little house in France and am on my way back to Greece in a few weeks time. My Substack handle then will be Sarah, Philhellene and my newsletter about Greece and my life there, and Greek life and culture more generally...

I use only Medium and Substack but I started liking Substack more as Medium censored my important public health stories and did the same to the stories of qualified healthcare professionals contributing to my Health and Science pub. If they don't censor content Medium is a great platform. So to share my content with a broader audience I now prefer Substack. I also cancelled my Friends of Medium subscription for this reason and will not renew it until they stop censorship.

All the platforms are terrible and a waste of time. I really don't get why anyone uses any of them -- or why I'm even still getting emails from you, apparently.

Medium is more straightforward, more user friendly at first sight. Substack can be overwhelming, and the learning curve cnq be steep. But the feeling of community I feel here can't be felt on Medium. Sure, publications help. But I love to be able to my audience in so many ways on Substack

I still like Medium for writing and reading. I enjoy the social aspect of Substack and the diversity.
